Broadbeach: teen charged with assaulting three police officers on Gold Coast Hwy

Three police officers have been hospitalised after they were allegedly assaulted by a teenage girl while responding to reports of a brawl.

Queensland Police said the alleged assaults occurred in the midst of a “large street disturbance” at a tram stop on the Gold Coast Hwy near Broadbeach at about 10pm on Friday.

A 15-year-old girl was taken into custody after a 39-year-old man sustained multiple facial injuries during the alleged affray.

But after the teen was placed under arrest, police said she became “agitated”.

She allegedly proceeded to attack a male sergeant, a male constable, and a female constable, who all received injuries to their face and body, police said.

The three officers were taken to Pindara Private Hospital for treatment.

The teen has been charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer and has been remanded to appear at the Southport Children’s Court at a later date.

Police said another five teenagers, between 14 and 16, were dealt with under the Youth Justice Act for their alleged involvement in the brawl.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
