Last week Kim Kardashian teased her Instagram followers with photos of herself visiting the Chanel archives and even petting Choupette, leading her fans to conclude she would wear the label to tonight’s event.
But in a twist, she has arrived with daughter North West in Schiaparelli, which will no doubt cause a lot less controversy than her outfit from last year, when she borrowed the dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to John F Kennedy, and was accused of damaging the vintage treasure.
On the red carpet, she said she was hoping to have a more laid-back experience than in years gone by.
“This year I just wanted to feel glamorous, I really didn’t feel the pressure. I took a shot before I came with my sisters. It was just a glamorous night.” She said her gown, by Daniel Roseberry, pays homage to Lagerfeld’s love of pearls.
“I thought, what is more Karl than the iconic Chanel pearls, so we wanted to just be dripping in pearls. Some popped [off] on the way, so I told my daughter to grab them. They’re real pearls. She was putting them in her purse.”
On meeting Choupette, Kardashian said it was “a little scary. It takes a little while to warm up to her … She wrote me a sweet note … We had a love-fest.”
North, one of Kardashian’s four children with rapper Kanye West, is carrying the famous Chanel shell bag from the spring/summer 2012 collection, which Kardashian was carrying recently at the Time 100 gala.
